In 2008, Grady Roberts received the BGC’s Father Leo Henry Founder’s Award for exemplifying commitment and dedication in working toward change in our neighborhoods. In February 2012, we honored him again – featuring his home as our “Showcase of the Month” in that issue of The Bulletin. Dr. Roberts is a lifelong Garfield resident, despite leaving the area to graduate from Central State University, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the United States Army War College. He also has a MSW, a MPH, and a Ph.D from the University of Pittsburgh. He’s not only been an asset to Garfield, serving as a president of the BGC’s Board of Directors and as a member of our Board, but to Pittsburgh as a whole. For 35 years, he taught at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work and also worked as an associate dean there. Closer to home, he and his family have worked hard to beautify the 5300 block of Broad Street and Jordan Way, improving not just their properties but the rest of the block.
