Penn Avenue Reconstruction Project update

What’s happened so far

Work is underway on Phase II of the Penn Avenue Reconstruction project. Since May 15, the contractor has been drainage improvements between Pacific and Atlantic and has wrapped up sidewalk work between Evaline and Pacific, with the exception of the planting beds and tree pits which will be installed later.

What’s coming in the next two weeks

The contractor will prepare to form and pour the roadway between Pacific and Atlantic, with a goal of restoring access to Aldi’s Penn Ave driveway around June 9. Sidewalk excavation will begin between Pacific and Atlantic the week of June 8.

What’s coming after that

The contractor will be continuing to “leapfrog,” working on the sidewalk between Pacific and Atlantic while shifting the roadway barrier to begin roadway work on the block between Atlantic and S Aiken.
