Penn Avenue Reconstruction Project update

What’s happened so far

Work is underway on Phase II of the Penn Avenue Reconstruction project. Despite inclement weather, the construction has progressed. Over the last two weeks, crews

• Formed the sidewalk between Pacific and Atlantic

• Complete roadway excavation between Atlantic and Aiken

• Began drainage work between Atlantic and Aiken

Pittsburgh Water made an emergency water line repair on June 22 that required closing the open lane on Penn, but work was completed and the street re-opened June 23.

What’s coming in the next two weeks

The contractor will only work four days the week of July 4, but the following work is expected over the next two weeks.

Pacific to Atlantic

• Pouring sidewalks

• Sidewalks expected to reopen by end of week

• Aldi’s driveway from Penn closed Monday to Wednesday.

Atlantic to Aiken

• Continuing drainage work

• Forming and pouring curb

What’s coming after that

Once the drainage and subbase work has been completed and the curb has been formed and poured, the contractor will move on to pouring the roadway between Atlantic and Aiken in two phases: parking lane and driving lane. This work will require a slightly earlier start and longer days to provide the necessary cure time before cutting control joints. Additional information will be provided in the next bi-weekly update.

Note

Remember that businesses in the constuction zone remain open and that access is still available, even when work is happening.
