What’s happened so far

Work is underway on Phase II of the Penn Avenue Reconstruction project. Since May 29, the city’s contractor has made progress on two sections.

Between Pacific and Atlantic they have:

• Finished pouring and saw-cutting the new roadway

• Restored driveway access to Aldi from Penn Ave. (Another short term closure will be needed when the driveway concrete is being poured and cured)

• Adjusted the work zone and barriers to establish a pedestrian walkway on the newly poured street segment

• Began excavating the sidewalk

Between Atlantic and Aiken they have:

• Shifted the work zone and channelizers

• Began demolition of the existing roadway

What’s coming in the next two weeks

Between Pacific and Atlantic crews will begin:

• Installing electrical conduit in the sidewalk for lighting

• Forming and pouring sidewalk the following week (This will require a 2-3 day closure of the Aldi driveway)

Between Atlantic and Aiken crews will be:

• Excavating the road through the middle of next week

• Working on drainage through the rest of the week

• Forming and pouting the new curb will take place the following week

No traffic or parking changes are expected

What’s coming after that

The contractor will be wrapping up work between Pacific and Atlantic, with the exception of the tree grates which are still awaiting delivery. Roadway work is expected to continue between Atlantic and Aiken for several more weeks before they are able to shift to sidewalk work on the same block.
