Penn Avenue Reconstruction Project Update

What’s happened so far

Work is underway on Phase II of the Penn Avenue Reconstruction project. Since March 9, the city’s contractor has been installing temporary speed humps on some streets around the project area. Work also started on removing the road surface on the south lane of Penn Avenue between Evaline Street and Pacific Avenue.

What’s coming in the next two weeks

The contractor will continue excavation work before moving onto grading the surface. After that, work will begin on the crosswalks between the intersection.

What’s coming after that

The work on the south side of Penn Avenue between Evaline Street and Pacific Avenue will last into April. After the road surface is finished, crews will begin work on the sidewalks. During that portion of the work, a pedestrian path will be set up in the newly-built roadway with paths set up to the property entrances.

FAQs

• Work in the construction area is supposed to begin at 7 a.m. The city may occasionally give the contractor permission to start early on a particular day to finish a project in a timely manner.

• The city is collecting feedback from the public about potential confusion regarding signs in the work zone and the detour. Changes will happen when the city is finished collecting feedback.

• The city and the contractor are working to give delivery vehicles more space to turn in the work zone.
