Penn Avenue Reconstruction Project update

What’s happened so far

Work is underway on Phase II of the Penn Avenue Reconstruction project. Over the last two weeks, the contractor has completed and re-opened the sidewalk between Atlantic and Pacific avenues, as well as advanced drainage work and formed the curb between Atlantic and Aiken.

What’s coming in the next two weeks

Atlantic to Aiken

• Forming the new travel lane

• Pouring the curb and new travel lane

Traffic and Parking Changes

• People’s Natural Gas will be lowering a conflicting gas line at the Penn/Aiken Intersection overnight beginning Monday, July 13. Work is expected to take up to three nights. Westbound traffic will be detoured off of Penn around 8 p.m. and reopened to traffic by 6 a.m. the following morning.

• Pittsburgh Water will be replacing a lead service line on Penn Ave between Aiken and Atlantic overnight on Tuesday, July 14, within the same detour as the People’s Natural Gas closure above.
